Day 36: 1st prac and more

Sunday night is going to be my first gigging experience in Australia. I went over to the guy that I'm playing guitar for's house in the afternoon and we paced through his songs. He'd already given me the songs to learn so it went pretty smoothly. He didn't really have any idea on what he wanted in terms of arrangement so I was free to do what I wanted. We got through everything pretty quickly. I wasn't too keen to stick around for too long.

Afterwards I popped Kate a text as I was in the area. She was just chilling at home so I went over to her's for a bit. Her flat is looking a lot more homely now than it did when they had their flatwarming. They've now got couches, tables etc - general furniture stuffs.

At night I took Dad's car out to St. Kilda. There's this competition for unsigned artists that's running in a bar called Robarta there every Thursday nights until mid-April. I wanted to go check it out so I dragged Alice B along with me as she lives only about 5 minutes away from the venue. It was pouring down with rain and and evening lightening strikes. Ooooh scary.

The comp hadn't quite started when Alice and I got there so we went for a walk and found a place to sat down. I had pizza again. Here is a photo of my enjoying my pizza.

We went back and we stayed for 3 of the acts. One of them was quite interesting. He was this gumby, slightly nerdular looking guy who played guitar and harmonica, sang long AAA form songs with lots of lyrical content - he drew inevitable, immediate comparisons with BDyl. The competition wasn't as hot and steamy and exciting as I had envisioned (they made the poster look real good) but I think I still want to have a go at it because the prizes are quite good (another reason why I had high expectations for the night).

30c mini soft serves from Mcdonalds on the way home ftw!

Peak: The guy I practiced with had to take a call and I was waiting for him in the lounge. His flatmate (an older girl) was studying on the dining table not too far from me. I'm chilling on my phone and all of a sudden I hear this mighty rip from her direction that sounded a little farty. I made myself not look in the direction and I assumed it was the seat that made the noise. But then I heard her mumble, "Ugh, what's wrong with me," in a sort of explanatory way for why she had made the noise. I JUST managed to hold my shit together. But it was hilarious.
