Day 13 / Day 8: What a GC

We played it real cool when we went to check out early in the morning. I had a minor freak out in my head leading up to the moment though. I had visions of him being so disappointed that I’d lied to him about how many people were sleeping in the room. I wished that he was a dick and would yell at me if he happened to catch me, but he was such a nice guy I could only imagine him being disappointed. It was like how parents don't say anything at all instead of yelling and you know it's baaaaad.
As it happened, he didn’t mention a thing and he saw us off with a friendly wave and smile.
To be honest, Byron Bay was a bit of a let down. Yes, the beach was as beautiful as the ads. Yes, the people there looked as good as the people in the ads. However, I still didn’t much fancy the town. Admittedly, we had very high hopes for the place to live up to. Byron Bay has a small town feel and I was expecting the usual get-away-from-cityness greatness. So it was quite alienating to me that the streets were lined with commercial, giant brand stores such as Billabong and General Issue. I guess it makes sense as it is such a popular spot so the big brands want to capitalise, but what I had in my head was original, quaint, private stores where you could find gems like nowhere else. Boo hoo.
The girls agreed with my sentiments and we didn’t linger around too long. We did go for another beach swim because it was so sunny and the beach was still 10/10. Then we headed straight for our next destination – Surfer’s Paradise, Gold Coast.
We crossed from NSW to Queensland and had to put our clocks back an hour, which caused some confusion amongst the girls to my amusement. Surprise, we headed straight for the beach once again. Note: It may sound like the trip was becoming repetitive, and it was, but it was a new and enthralling experience every time.

Meryem, another friend from school had just finished her day at Uni so we went to her house. She was kind enough to take us into the city and show us around and then take us back to her place, let the girls cook dinner (I bought dinner in town to save cooking hassle, go me), and to top it off, let us all crash at her’s.
I’ve been really good at conserving money on the trip so far. I’ve been conscious of the fact that I don’t have a job to go back to in Melbourne yet so I should be spending my money wisely. But tonight, something clicked (ie laziness kicked in) and I told myself that I should let loose and that whatever extra money I spend on this trip isn’t going to make any difference to how I live / quality of life when I get back.
So I went all out for dinner and bought aporto + sushi. YummmzZz.
7 o’clock start tomorrow morning. It’s gonna be a long day!
Planned route for tomorrow morning
 Peak: Meryem Alabid!
Pit: My eyes getting sore from being kept so busy by so much beauty
